A desperate wife tried to pull her seriously ill husband to the first floor of a hospital after staff said they did not have any stretchers available.

A crowd, including whoever is filming her ordeal, can be seen watching what she is doing, with no one offering to help.

The ill man, 45-year-old Srinivasa Chary suffered from symptoms of gastroenteritis.

His worried wife Sree Vani, 40, had accompanied him to hospital where she was then told that they didn’t have any way of getting him to the first floor.

As her husband writhed on the floor unable even to stand for the next hour, she had no option other than to drag him to the docs.

A rickshaw driver that had bought them there and might have helped had already left by that point.

Chary and Vani are residents of the Madina Masjid area in the town.

Vani asked the hospital staff to provide her a stretcher or a wheel chair so that she could carry her husband to the consultation room on the first floor.

The incident happened at the area of Madina Masjid in the city of Guntakal, in Anantapur district, in Andhra Pradesh State in Eastern India.

The woman said: “I asked that somebody carry him to the first floor, but they said they didn’t have anybody.

“So then I asked for a stretcher, but they didn’t give me a stretcher either because they said they did not have any.”

Hospital administrative officer Dr Mallikharjun said he would inquire into the incident and initiate disciplinary action against all those responsible for the inhuman act.

He said he came to know about the incident only when the video went online.

Vani said Chary has been paralysed after he suffered a stroke. He used to work as a security guard in Hyderabad.
