Is anonymous blogging the way to go

I got an email recently from one of my reader. Her question was “What is the best way to blog, by revealing your name or by being anonymous?” I thought may be others too have this question in their mind. So why not write a blog post rather than just reply by email. When a similar question is raised by someone in future, I can direct them to my blog post to save time on to reply individually. So this is my thoughts on the question: The choice to reveal your identity on your blog or not is entirely personal. But before you make your decision, just look at some of the pros and cons. Pros When you put your face on your blog, your readers will feel that they are reading the blog posts of a real person. This will make it easier to build a trust between you and your audience. If your writing is truly outstanding, you could become an authority blogger and earn a lot of fan following. This will also make your life easier to get followers, if you come up your next blog. If you can put your face or reveal your identity on your blog without any harm to you, then by all means do so. Cons So what could be possibly harm you if you reveal your identity? If you have a reputable job and your responsibilities prevent you or if your passion can damage your image in public, then revealing your identity is something that do not want to do. If your feel your niche is something that you are passionate about but many may have a different opinion, then your friends or relatives might take it as something that is not acceptable. By putting your face on your blog, you are immediately recognized. When you are out in public events or parties or social gatherings this can be a good thing if you are among people who like what you stand for. But it could also cause you problems if you are with someone who despise what you write. One thing you as a blogger you should keep in mind is that there could alway be mixed opinion about what you stand for. People could accept it or could not agree with it. Most often what I have noticed is that the people who are in favor of revealing your identity always strongly come against blogging anonymously. They feel that if you have knowledge to share, then you should share it boldly. This sounds great. But think of the other side of it. By revealing your identity there is chance for you could be dragged unnecessarily into heated discussions. Though I don’t think that this could happen, there is always a chance. Conclusion Reveal or not reveal identify is truly a personal choice. Both are acceptable. Give it some thought and use your best judgement when you make your decision. Consider the fact that when your blog suddenly pick up momentum and your audience increase, do you want everyone to know that you wherever you go. What do you think? Share your story in the comments.
