Hop aboard the ‘Spirit of Singapore’, the first ever Madame Tussauds boat ride, and travel through the fantasy, tropical Singapore garden. Watch Singapore’s native plants come to life, as the scent of lilies, jasmine and giant palms wafts through the air. Listen to the calming bird song as the boat ride comes alive with spectacular colour. From the tranquility of the tropical jungle, you will whisk straight into the incredible F1 Singapore night race, surrounded by the noise of grand prix cars speeding by. The lingering smell of burning rubber will draw you towards the Singapore flyer. Just as a thunderous roar overhead shows a Singapore Airlines A380 aircraft, on its way to Changi International airport.

The Magic Fountain of Montjuïc (Catalan: Font màgica de Montjuïc, Spanish: Fuente mágica de Montjuic) is a fountain located at the head of Avinguda Maria Cristina in the Montjuïc neighborhood of Barcelona, Catalonia, Spain. The fountain is situated below the Palau Nacional on the Montjuïc mountain and near the Plaça d’Espanya and Poble Espanyol de Barcelona. The fountain, like most of the surrounding developments, was constructed for the 1929 Barcelona International Exposition.

The Magic Fountain was designed by Carles Buïgas, who had designed illuminated fountains as early as 1922. The site where the fountain was constructed was the previous location of The Four Columns. The columns, representative of the Catalanism movement, were demolished in 1928 under the orders of Prime Minister Miguel Primo de Rivera and were re-erected in 2010 a few meters away from the original location.

Buïgas submitted his design a year before the exhibition, with many calling the plan too ambitious, with too little time to complete. The construction project utilized over 3000 workers. The first show took place on May 19, 1929, the day before the start of the Exposition. The fountain was badly damaged in the Spanish Civil War and did not operate until 1955, after Buigas oversaw needed repairs.

In the 1980s, music was incorporated with the light show and the fountain, along with the Museu Nacional, was completely restored prior to the 1992 Summer Olympics, held at Montjuïc. Performances include film, classical, and modern music, such as The Godfather, The Lord of the Rings, Gladiator, a Spanish zarzuela movement, “Barcelona” by Freddie Mercury and Montserrat Caballé, and modern pop songs. Performances take place at half-hour intervals every weekend, with weekends extended during the summer season.

The fountain sprays 700 gallons of water a second through 3620 jets to create its effect. The highest water spout is 170 feet.

Manikaran is located at a distance of 45 kms. from Kulu.

https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/3/3f/Manikaran.jpg/300px-Manikaran.jpg

Manikaranis located in the Parvati Valley on river Parvati northeast of Bhuntar in the Kulu District of Himachal Pradesh. It is at an altitude of 1760 m and is located about 45 km from Kulu.

This small town attracts tourists visiting Manali and Kulu to its hot springs and pilgrim centers. Manikaran is a pilgrimage centre for Hindus   and Sikhs. There are many temples and a Gurudwara at Manikkaran. There are temples of the Hindu deities RamaKrishna, and Vishnu. The area is well known for its hot springs[3] and its beautiful landscape.

According to legend, when the Hindu God Shiva and his consort Parvati were walking in the valley, Parvati dropped one of her earrings. The jewel was seized by Shesha, the serpent deity, who then disappeared into the earth with it. Shesha only surrendered the jewel when Shiva performed the cosmic dance, the Tandava  and shot the jewel up through the water. Apparently, jewels continued to be thrown up in the waters at Manikaran until the earthquake of 1905

According to the Sikhs, during third Udasi, the founder of Sikhism Guru Nanak came to this place in 15 Asu 1574 Bikrami with his disciple Bhai Mardana. Mardana felt hungry and they had no food. Guru Nanak sent Mardana to collect food for the langar (the Community Kitchen). Many people donated atta (flour) to make Roti(bread). The one problem was that there was no fire to cook the food.Guru Nanak asked Mardana to lift a stone and he complied and a hot spring appeared. As directed by Guru Nanak, Mardana put the rolled chapattis in the spring to his despair the chapatis sank.Guru Nanak then told him to pray to God saying that if his chapatis float back then he would donate one chapati in His name. When he prayed all the chapatis started floating duly baked.Guru Nanak said that anyone who donates in the name of God, his drowned items float back.

The water is still hot and is considered extremely auspicious. The water of the spring is also supposed to have curative powers. The water is so hot that rice can be cooked in it.

Situated near Harippad, this is a serpent shrine under the patronage of a brahmin family, headed by a priestess. The ancient shrine is an internationally renowned pilgrim centre dedicated to the Serpent God – Nagaraja. Sarpa Yakshi and Naga Yakshi are the beloved consorts of Nagaraja. It is believed that Nagaraja as the installed diety is endowed with the form of Hari (Lord Vishnu) and the spirit of Lord Shiva.

Legend has it that the first priestess of Mannarasala gave birth to a five-headed snake, which is believed to reside in the ancestral house to safeguard the family. At Mannarasala barren women are believed to be blessed with children and a special turmeric paste available at the shrine is credited with powers to cure even leprosy.

Mannarasala Sree Nagaraja Temple is a very ancient and internationally known centre of pilgrimage for the devotees of serpent gods (Nagaraja). The famous Nagaraja temple “Mannarasala” is nestled in a forest glade, like most snake temples. The Mannarasala Temple has over 30,000 images of snakes along the paths and among the trees, and is the largest such temple in Kerala. Women seeking fertility come to worship here, and upon the birth of their child come to hold thanksgiving ceremonies here, often bringing new snake images as offerings.A special turmeric paste which is available at the temple is credited with curative powers.

Though the legends related to the origin of a place cannot be deemed as its history, the story on the evolution of Mannarasala as one of the foremost places of worship of the Serpent Gods is associated with Lord Parashurama who is widely believed to be the creator of Kerala. This history of Mannarasala has been mentioned in the ‘Mandara Salodyam’, a Sanskrit poem written by Mannarasala M.G. Narayanan Namboodiri of the sacred family based on the accounts and legends handed down and old scriptures and books available with the temple.

Thila also knows as Manta Point is about 1 Km long and is a gathering point for Mantas during the north-east monsoon season. It is an underwater island that can be both, so small that you can dive it all around or so big that you’ll manage to see only one side during a dive. The Thila that are within a Kandu are usually the diving spot with the strongest current but also the one that have the most interesting sea life. The reef top is at 15 meters and on the western side of the Thila but rises to around 10 meters on the Eastern side.  Mantas mostly focus on some coral rocks on the reef top on the outside of the Thila.

Maracana Stadium

Maracanã Stadium officially named Estádio Jornalista Mário Filho is an association football stadium in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The stadium is part of a complex that includes an arena known by the name of Maracanãzinho, which means “The Little Maracanã” in Portuguese. Owned by the Rio de Janeiro state government, the stadium is now managed by the clubs Flamengo and Fluminense. It is located at the Maracanã neighborhood, named after the Rio Maracanã, a now canalized river in Rio de Janeiro.

The stadium was opened in 1950 to host the FIFA World Cup, in which Brazil was beaten 2–1 by Uruguay in the deciding game, in front of a still standing record attendance of 199,854 spectators, on 16 July 1950. The venue has seen attendances of 150,000 or more at 26 occasions, the last being on 29 May 1983, as 155,253 spectators watched Flamengo beat Santos, 3–0. The stadium has seen crowds of more than 100,000 284 times. But as terraced sections have been replaced with seats over time, and after the renovation for the 2014 FIFA World Cup, its original capacity has been reduced to the current 78,838, but it remains the largest stadium in Brazil. The stadium is mainly used for football matches between the major football clubs in Rio de Janeiro, including Flamengo, Fluminense, Botafogo, and Vasco da Gama. It has also hosted a number of concerts and other sporting events.

The total attendance at the last (and indeed decisive game, but not a final) game of the 1950 World Cup was 199,854, making it the world’s largest stadium by capacity when it was inaugurated. After its 2010–2013 renovation, the rebuilt stadium currently seats 78,838 spectators, making it the largest stadium in Brazil and the second in South America after Estadio Monumental in Peru. It was the main venue of the 2007 Pan American Games, hosting the football tournament and the opening and closing ceremonies. The Maracanã was partially rebuilt in preparation for the 2013 FIFA Confederations Cup, and the 2014 World Cup, for which it hosted several matches, including the final. It also served as the venue for the opening and closing ceremonies of the 2016 Summer Olympics and Paralympics, with the main track and field events taking place at the Estádio Olímpico.

The Maramon Convention, one of the largest Christian convention in Asia, is held at Maramon, Pathanamthitta, Kerala, India annually during the month of February on the vast sand-bed of the Pampa River next to the Kozhenchery Bridge. It is organised by Mar Thoma Evangelistic Association, the missionary wing of the Mar Thoma church.

The origin and growth of this annual get-together for one week at a stretch can be traced to the great revival movement which gathered momentum during the reformation period in the Syrian Church’s of Kerala under the pioneering leadership of Abraham Malpan in the latter part of 19th century. This brought about the transformation in resurgence of the ancient apostolic Church’s in Kerala founded by St. Thomas the Apostle approximately in AD 52. In the Syriac-speaking culture of upper Mesopotamia and Syria the apostle was called Judas Thomas. Thomas (Tau’ma) means twin in Syriac.

Jawaharlal Nehru in his Glimpses of World History, 1934 wrote about Christianity in India:

“You may be surprised to learn that Christianity came to India long before it went to England or Western Europe, and when even in Rome it was a despised and proscribed sect. Within 100 years or so of the death of Jesus, Christian Missionaries came to South India by sea. They were received courteously and permitted to preach their new faith. They converted a large number of people, and their descendants have lived there, with varying fortune, to this day. Most of them belong to old Christian sects which have ceased to exist in Europe”.

An island uninhabited except for the sea turtles, Marathonisi (Turtle Island) is part of the National Marine Park of Zakynthos, which strives to protect sea turtles and their habitats. You’ll discover two beaches on the island–one sandy and one rocky. Book a boat tour to visit the island, or rent a motorboat to reach the island on your own. Even if the turtles aren’t there when you visit, look for their tracks in the sand. If you stop at the sea caves on the other side of the island, you can snorkel and search for more sea turtles.

Marayur or Marayoor is a town in Idukki district of Kerala, India. It is located 42 kilometers north of Munnar on SH 17 connecting Munnar with Udumalpet, Tamil Nadu. Marayur is the only place in Kerala that has natural sandalwood forests. Ancient dolmens and rock paintings in Marayur date back to the Stone Age.

History
Marayur claims to be a part of a Stone Age civilization that is as old as 10,000 B.C. It is also home to a later period of large-scale dolmen-building. People migrated from Tamil Nadu to this area when the Madurai king Thirumalainaicker was defeated by Tippu Sultan, in the eighteenth century CE. The migrants created five villages, being Kanthalloor, Keezhanthur, Karayur, Marayur and Kottakudi. These villages were called the “Anju nadu”, literally meaning “five lands”.

Megalithic Dolmens
Also called Muniyaras, these dolmens belong to the Iron Age. These dolmenoids were burial chambers made of four stones placed on edge and covered by a fifth stone called the cap stone. Some of these Dolmenoids contain several burial chambers, while others have a quadrangle scooped out in laterite and lined on the sides with granite slabs. These are also covered with cap stones. Dozens of Dolmens around the area of old Siva temple (Thenkasinathan Temple) at Kovilkadavu on the banks of the River Pambar, and rock paintings on the south-western slope of the plateau overlooking the river have attracted visitors. Apart from the dolmens of Stone Age, several dolmens of Iron Age exist in this region especially on the left side of river Pambar as is evident from the usage of neatly dressed granite slabs for the dolmens. At least one of them has a perfectly circular hole of 28 cm diameter inside the underground chamber. This region has several types of dolmens. Large number of them are overground with about 70–90 cm height. Another type has a height 140–170 cm. There is an overground dolmen with double length up to 350 cm. Fragments of burial urns are also available in the region near the dolmens. This indicates that the dolmens with 70–90 cm height were used for burial of the remains of people of high social status. Burial urns were used for the burial of the remains of commoners. The dolmens with raised roofs might have been used for habitation of people. Why some people lived in the cemeteries has not been satisfactorily explained.

Rock paintings
Ancient rock paintings are part of Marayur heritage at Attala, Ezhuthu Guha (literally means “cave of writing”), Kovilkadavu and Manala in Marayur panchayat. Attala is situated in the west part of Marayur Township and more than 90 painted motifs can be seen here. The rock paintings of Attala are situated in a colossal east facing rock shelter 1500 meters above mean sea level. Most of the paintings at Attala are abstract designs except for a few human and animal figures. Ezhuthu Guha rock paintings are sited in the Koodakavu Sandalwood Reserve Forest at Marayur in the Marayur Panchayat at an elevation of 1000 meters above mean sea level. More or less 90 painted motifs can be seen here. However, as the place is the most famous rock art site in Kerala, it attracts a large number of visitors and has been extensively vandalized since it was brought to wide public attention. Kovilkadavu is less than five kilometers from Marayur town and the place is famous for Neolithic dolmens and rock paintings. Ten 10 painted motifs are located on the south-western slope of the plateau overlooking the Pambar river. There is a rock painting at Manala in Chinnar Wildlife Sanctuary of Marayur near the Alampetty tribal settlement. Here, a picture of a deer and a man can be seen. In close proximity to this art site, a new rock painting has been newly discovered.

Flora and fauna
Marayur has more than 1000 species of flowering plants and is a well known repository of medicinal plants. There are 114 endemic species and the sighting of Aibizia lathamii, a critically endangered tree, was recently reported from the dry forests. Chinnar – the wildlife sanctuary in Marayur – has recorded the largest number of reptilian species, including the mugger crocodile, in Kerala. With 225 recorded species of birds, it is one of the richest areas of south India in avian diversity. The forests in Marayur preserve a population of the endangered Grizzled Giant Squirrel. The rare white bison has been recently reported in Chinnar wildlife sanctuary. Other important mammals found are elephant, tiger, leopard, guar, sambar, spotted deer, Nilgiri thar, common langur, bonnet macaque etc. The phenomenon of butterfly migration occurs in between the monsoons.

Maryoor contains a number of sandalwood forests, and is the only[citation needed] place in Kerala where natural sandalwood forest is present. Processing of sandalwood and its associated oil forms part of local economy, a depot near Marayur town supporting this industry. Sandal wood or Santalum album is a parasitic tree having a fragrant and close-grained yellowish heartwood. Sandalwood oil, also known as ‘liquid gold,’ is extracted from the roots and wood of sandalwood. This oil is a costly item marketed at a few choosy outlets all over the state. A climate with low rainfall is suitable for the growth of choice sandalwood trees from which good quality oil can be extracted. The 93 km² Marayur reserve forest is believed to have about sixty thousand naturally grown sandalwood trees, of which nearly 2,000 trees had been allegedly plundered in just one year since January 2004, when the last survey was conducted. The auction rate for first quality Marayur sandal is quoted at ₹1,100 per kg, according to forest department sources (2004).

For a dose of education mixed with fun in the sun and recreation on the water, the Marina Barrage gives you all that and more.

In Singapore, even something as mundane as a dam can be turned into a hotspot for recreational activities. Built across the mouth of the 350-metre wide Marina Channel, the Marina Barrage creates the country’s 15th reservoir, supplying around 10 per cent of the nation’s water needs.

As the water in the reservoir remains calm all year around, it’s ideal for some soaking wet fun, whether it’s kayaking or for the more team-spirited, a dragon boat race. If water sports is not your thing, then head to the rooftop of the barrage, which boasts a green space that’s popular for flying a kite, or just to chill out with the family.

The Marina Barrage also plays an important part in helping to alleviate flooding in some of the lower lying areas of the island. During periods of heavy rain, a series of nine gates at the dam will be opened to release excess storm water into the sea when the tide is low. When it’s high tide, giant pumps that are capable of pumping an Olympic-sized swimming pool per minute whirr into action, draining water into the sea.

The facility is also a showcase for Singapore’s push to be a greener country. The Solar Park, for instance, features one of the largest collections of solar panels in Singapore, with over 400 panels providing electricity needed for lighting at the barrage during the day.

Those want to find out more about the country’s efforts to go green can head to the Sustainable Singapore Gallery, which illustrates environmental and water issues through interactive multi-media displays, exhibits and games.

During the 13-minute Marina Bay Sands Light and Sound Show, the laser lights will light up the sky from the unique ship-like rooftop of the Marina Bay Sands. The water get reflected from the colourful lights from the roofs of the Marina Bay Sands shopping centre in the foreground.  The dancing lights are accompanied by music that could be heard around the whole bay area.  The great thing about the light and sound show at Marina Bay is that it is visible from both sides of the water.

The Marina Bay Sands ® SkyPark is a roof like no other, perched 200 metres in the air with an infinity pool and observation deck in the clouds.

It looks like a celestial surfboard or a spaceship docking on a tripod. No matter where your imagination takes you, the  Marina Bay Sands ® SkyPark is a gawk-worthy feat of engineering.

Designed by visionary architect Moshe Safdie, the SkyPark floats atop the three soaring Marina Bay Sands ®   hotel towers.

Giant observation deck

This gravity-defying platform is one of the largest in the world. The 1.2-hectare SkyPark stretches longer than the Eiffel Tower laid down and is large enough to park four and a half A380 Jumbo Jets.

It houses a ticketed observation deck, lush gardens, top-notch restaurants and an exclusive, infinity-edge swimming pool with a legendary view.

The 150-metre pool, the world’s largest elevated body of water outdoors, has been designed with a vanishing edge. It is as if there is nothing between the swimmer and the skyscrapers in front.

Those taking a dip feel like they are swimming among the clouds, perched so high in the sky with the most majestic scenery at their feet. However, only hotel guests can swim in the pool and enter the SkyPark free of charge.

Magnificent views

Visitors not staying at the hotel can buy tickets to the Sands SkyPark Observation Deck, which offers you unobstructed 360-degree views of the Singapore skyline.

Dine at Sky on 57 or CÉ LA VI located atop the Sands SkyPark and witness an unforgettable panoramic view of the Singapore skyline.

Mosque Jamek.jpg

Built in 1909, Jamek Mosque is one of the oldest mosques in Kaula LumpurMalysia. It is located at the confluence of the Klang and Gombak River and was designed by Arthur Benison Hubback.

The Masjid Jamek was built on the location of an old Malay burial place at the confluence of Klang and Gombak River. A couple of mosques previously existed in the Java Street and Malay Street area serving the Malay communities, but Jamek Mosque is the first large mosque to be built in Kuala Lumpur. The foundation stone of the mosque was laid by the Sultan of Selangor, Sultan Sir Alaeddin Sulaiman Shah on 23 March 1908, and the Sultan officially opened the mosque on 23 December 1909. The construction of the mosque cost $32,625, funded in part by the Malay community with contribution from the British colonial government. Masjid Jamek served as Kuala Lumpur’s main mosque until the national mosque, Masjid Negara, was built in 1965. The architect was Arthur Benison Hubback who designed the mosque in the Indian Muslim Mughal architectural style.
The design of the mosque has been described as a Moorish, Indo-Saracenic or Mughal architecture. A. B Hubback also designed a number of building in similar style, such as the Kuala Lumpur railway station and the Ubudiah Mosque in Kuala Kangsar. The mosque has 2 main minarets among other smaller ones; the pattern of pink and white banding of the minarets, formed of brick and plaster, has been described as “blood and bandage”. The mosque has 3 domes, the largest of which reached 21.3 metres (70 ft) in height. The prayer hall is located beneath the domes.

The Masroor Rock Cut Temple or Himalayan Pyramid is a complex of temples located in Masroor in Kangra valley, which is 40 kilometres (25 mi) from Kangra city in Kangra district of the Indian State of Himachal Pradesh. It is now known as ‘Thakurwada’, meaning “Vaishnavite temples”. It is a complex of monolithic rock cut temples, in shikhara (raising tower) style of classical Indian architectural style, dated by art historians to 6–8th centuries. Such an architectural style is unique to the northern part of India while there are many places in western and southern India where such rock-cut structures exist at number of locations. There is a lake or pond called Masroor lake in front of this edifice which shows partial reflection of the temples. A legend attributes its construction to the Pandavas of Mahabharata fame who resided here during their “incognito” exile from their kingdom.

The temple complex is on a rocky ridge over which an array of monolithic (made of a single block of stone) temples have been carved which resemble the monolithic temples of Mahabalipuram, Ellora and Dhamnar caves. The central temple of this complex, called the Thakurdwara, has extensive well crafted carvings. This shrine facing east has idols of Ram, Lakshman and Sita (made of black-stone).

Location
The Masroor Rock Cut Temple, also known as Himalayan Pyramid, is a complex of temples located in the rolling topography of the Kangra Valley in the Dehra Gopipur tehsil in the backdrop of the Dhauladar Range and Beas River valley. It is located at the highest point of a local hill feature. It is close to Dharmashala, which is about 35 kilometres (22 mi) away. The temple complex is approachable now from a new 2-kilometre (1.2 mi) road built from Pir Bindli near Lunj. There is also a lake or pond called Masroor lake in front of this edifice which shows partial reflection of the temples.

Meenvallam Waterfalls, a hidden gem in Palakkad district, cascades from as high as 45 metres into Thuppanadu River which originates from the Kalladikodan Hills. Thuppanadu River later joins with the Thoothapuzha, which in turn empties into Bharathapuzha River. Located 8 km deep inside the forests from Thuppanad Junction on the Palakkad-Manarkkad Route in NH 213, the waterfalls are catching the attention of a lot of our visitors.

A small hydel project, with an installed capacity of three megawatts, has been constructed by the Palakkad District Panchayat at Meenvallam. The waterfalls and the surrounding area are protected and maintained by Thudikkode Vana Samrakshana Samathi of Olavakkode Range in Palakkad Forest Division. The forests surrounding the waterfalls are an extension of the Silent Valley National Park. The waterfall is 34 km from Palakkad and 26 km from Mannarkkad.

Mehrangarh Fort

Mehrangarh Fort

Mehrangarh Fort

Fateh Pol Rd, Sodagaran Mohalla, Jodhpur, Rajasthan 342006

Phone : 0291 254 8790

https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/5/5b/Mehrangarh_Fort.jpg/320px-Mehrangarh_Fort.jpg

Mehrangarh Fort , located in Jodhpur, is one of the largest forts in India. Built around 1460 by Rao Jodha, the fort is situated 410 feet (125 m) above the city and is enclosed by imposing thick walls. Inside its boundaries there are several palaces known for their intricate carvings and expansive courtyards. A winding road leads to and from the city below. The imprints of cannonball hits by attacking armies of Jaipur can still be seen on the second gate. To the left of the fort is the chhatri of Kirat Singh Soda, a soldier who fell on the spot defending the Mehrangarh fort.

There are seven gates, which include Jayapol (meaning ‘victory’), built by Maharaja Man Singh to commemorate his victories over Jaipur and Bikaner armies. Fattehpol (also meaning ‘victory’) gate was built by Maharaja Ajit Singh to mark the defeat of the Mughals. The palm imprints upon these still attract much attention and it is very proud for rao rajputs.

The museum in the Mehrangarh fort is one of the most well-stocked museums in Rajasthan. In one section of the fort museum there is a selection of old royal palanquins, including the elaborate domed gilt Mahadol palanquin which was won in a battle from the Governor of Gujarat in 1730. The museum exhibits the heritage of the Rathores in arms, costumes, paintings and decorated period rooms.

Entry to the fort is gained though a series of seven gates. The most famous of the gates are:

Jai Pol (“Gate of Victory”), built by Maharaja Man Singh in 1806 to celebrate his victory in a war with Jaipur and Bikaner.
Fateh Pol, built to celebrate a victory over the Mughals in 1707;
Dedh Kamgra Pol, which still bears the scars of bombardment by cannonballs;
Loha Pol, which is the final gate into the main part of the fort complex. Immediately to the left are the handprints (sati marks) of the ranis who in 1843 immolated themselves on the funeral pyre of their husband, Maharaja Man Singh.

Within the fort are several brilliantly crafted and decorated palaces. These include, Moti Mahal (Pearl Palace), Phool Mahal (Flower Palace), Sheesha Mahal (Mirror Palace), Sileh Khana and Daulat Khana. The museum houses a collection of palanquins, howdahs, royal cradles, miniatures, musical instruments, costumes and furniture. The ramparts of the fort house preserved old cannon (including the famous Kilkila), and provided a breath-taking view of the city.

Galleries in Mehrangarh Museum

Elephant’s howdahs
The howdahs were a kind of two-compartment wooden seat (mostly covered with gold and silver embossed sheets), which were fastened onto the elephant’s back. The front compartment, with more leg space and a raised protective metal sheet, was meant for kings or royalty, and the rear smaller one for a reliable bodyguard disguised as a fly-whisk attendant.

Palanquins
Palanquins were a popular means of travel and circumambulation for the ladies of the nobility up to the second quarter of the 20th century. They were also used by male nobility and royals on special occasions.

Daulat Khana – Treasures of Mehrangarh Museum
This gallery displays one of the most important and best preserved collections of fine and applied arts of the Mughal period of Indian history, during which the Rathore rulers of Jodhpur maintained close links with the Mughal emperors. It also has the remains of Emperor Akbar.

On display are sword hilts in jade, silver, rhino horn, ivory, shields studded with rubies, emeralds and pearls and guns with gold and silver work on the barrels. The gallery also has on display the personal swords of many emperors, among them outstanding historical piece like the Khaanda of Rao Jodha, weighing over 3 kg, the sword of Akbar the Great and the sword of Timur.

Paintings
This Gallery displays colours of Marwar-Jodhpur, the finest example of Marwar paintings.

The Turban Gallery
The Turban Gallery in the Mehrangarh Museum seeks to preserve, document and display the many different types of turbans once prevalent in Rajasthan; every community, region and festival having had its own head-gear.

Melissani Cave also Melisani is a cave located on the island of Kefalonia, northwest of Sami, about 5 km (3.1 mi) Southeast of Agia Effimia, Northeast of Argostoli and Northwest of Poros.
In Greek mythology, Melissani was the Cave of the Nymphs. It features a lake surrounded with trees and forest, and is located east of the mountains of Evmorfia and Agia Dynati.
The lake’s bottom is covered with stones. Plants grow at the opening of the cave. The color of the stone near the opening is stucco to honey-like brown.
The cave was rediscovered in 1951 by Giannis Petrocheilos.
Source : Wikipedia
The Cave of Melissani in Kefalonia: Situated just outside Sami, the Cave  has a strange appeal. It is one of the most significant places for tourists to visit in Greece. Surprisingly, there is a lake inside the cave that has trees and forests surrounding it. The cave itself is B-shaped with two chambers or halls separated with land or an island in the center. The roof of one of the halls caved in centuries ago letting sunlight filter in. The depth of the lake is 20 to 30 meters. When the sun is right overhead at noon, the sunlight hitting the turquoise-blue waters create a magical illusion and the whole Cave of Melissani suddenly feels lit with blue light.

This stunning new Mercedes electric motor can charge quicker than your mobile phone.
The six-metre long Vision Mercedes Maybach 6 is the latest luxury model from the car giant.
Complete with a 750 horsepower engine, the car can go from 0-60 miles per hour in under four seconds.
And it can charge 62 miles in five minutes.
A Mercedes spokesman said: “Thanks to its four compact permanent magnet synchronous electric motors, it features all-wheel drive.
“The front windscreen serves as a transparent display: driving-related data and geographical information is shown across its full width.”
“The dashboard wing curves across the door trim into the seat landscape, creating a 360° lounge.
“In the doors and dashboard the traditional wood trim softens the appearance of the digital control and display interfaces.
“As a contrast to the digital world of the displays, elm is used in the floor area, creating a refined yachting look.”
The large coupé was set to feature during a Monterey Car Week event on Pebble Beach California.
Design head Gorden Wagener said: “Our glamorous coupé, the Vision Mercedes-Maybach 6, represents the ultimate in contemporary luxury. It is hot and cool.

Mercedes-Benz has just unveiled an autonomous bus concept, and it’s pretty much the future of public transport.
Originally named the Future Bus, the new concept employs an array of autonomous tech to get passengers from A to B – without the need for a driver.
The Future Bus uses Daimler’s City Pilot autonomous system, which is essentially a network of cameras and GPS designed to figure out where the bus is on the road, and what its immediate surroundings are like.
That means the Future Bus can detect the status of lights, where other vehicles are on the road – and even knows when to stop and pull off at bus stops.
This sort of system could be used today, because unlike connected cars, it can work with existing roads and infrastructure.
Mercedes has already tested the bus in the Netherlands where the autonomous functions worked without a hitch, but the bus still has a driver in case of emergency.
Inside, the Future Bus uses a new approach to travelling too. Rather than one zone for all, the Future Bus splits passengers up based on how long their journeys are.
The result? Passengers with longer journeys will get better, less accessible seats, while those hopping on for shorter journeys may stand closer to the exit. In theory, this should make the movement of passengers way more efficient.
Autonomous technology might be great for our cars, but it’s in the public transport sector that it’ll really come into its own.

Merlion Park

One Fullerton, Singapore

Singapore Merlion BCT.jpg
The Merlion in Merlion Park near the Singapore CBD is a well-known tourist icon of Singapore. The Merlion cub is visible at the bottom right.

Merlion Park, a landmark of Singapore, is a major tourist attraction at One Fullerton, Singapore, near the Central Business District (CBD). Two structures of the Merlion are located at the park. The original merlion structure measures 8.6 meters tall, whilst a Merlion cub located near the original statue measures 2 metres tall. Its body is made of cement, skin from porcelain plates and eyes from small red teacups.

The Merlion is a well known marketing icon of Singapore depicted as mythical creature with a lion’s head and a body of a fish. It is widely used as a mascot and national personification of Singapore.

The Merlion was first used in Singapore as the logo for the tourism board. The Merlion is similar to the heraldic sea–lion which occurs in a number of different artistic traditions. Its name combines “mer” meaning the sea and “lion “. The fish body represents Singapore’s origin as a fishing village when it was called Temasek, which means “sea town” in Javanese. The lion head represents Singapore’s original name—Singapura—meaning “lion city” or “kota singa”.

The symbol was designed by Alec Fraser-Brunner, a member of the Souvenir Committee and curator of the Van Kleef Aquarium, for the logo of the Singapore Tourism Board (STB) in use from 26 March 1964 to 1997[3] and has been its trademarked symbol since 20 July 1966. Although the STB changed their logo in 1997, the STB Act continues to protect the Merlion symbol. Approval must be received from STB before it can be used. The Merlion appears frequently on STB-approved souvenirs.

The original Merlion statue used to stand at the mouth of the Singapore River, at the tip of the current The Fullerton Waterboat House Garden with Anderson Bridge as its background.

Millennium Park is a public park located in the Loop community area of Chicago in Illinois operated by the Chicago Department of Cultural Affairs and managed by MB Real Estate. The park was originally intended to celebrate the third millennium and is a prominent civic center near the city’s Lake Michigan shoreline that covers a 24.5-acre (99,000 m2) section of northwestern Grant Park. The area was previously occupied by parkland, Illinois Central’s rail yards, and parking lots. The park, which is bounded by Michigan Avenue, Randolph Street, Columbus Drive and East Monroe Drive, features a variety of public art. As of 2009, Millennium Park trailed only Navy Pier as a Chicago tourist attraction and by 2017 it had become the number one tourist attraction in the Midwestern United States. In 2015, the park became the location of the city’s annual Christmas tree lighting.

Millennium Park is a portion of the 319-acre (1.3 km2) Grant Park, known as the “front lawn” of downtown Chicago, and has four major artistic highlights: the Jay Pritzker Pavilion, Cloud Gate, the Crown Fountain, and the Lurie Garden. Millennium Park is successful as a public art venue in part due to the grand scale of each piece and the open spaces for display. A showcase for postmodern architecture, it also features the McCormick Tribune Ice Skating Rink, the BP Pedestrian Bridge, the Joan W. and Irving B. Harris Theater for Music and Dance, Wrigley Square, the McDonald’s Cycle Center, the Exelon Pavilions, the AT&T Plaza, the Boeing Galleries, the Chase Promenade, and the Nichols Bridgeway.[40]

Millennium Park is considered one of the largest green roofs in the world, having been constructed on top of a railroad yard and large parking garages. The park, which is known for being user friendly, has a very rigorous cleaning schedule with many areas being swept, wiped down or cleaned multiple times a day. Although the park was unveiled in July 2004, some features opened earlier, and upgrades continued for some time afterwards. Along with the cultural features above ground (described below) the park has its own 2218-space parking garage.

Millennium Park had 3 million visitors in its first year; annual attendance was projected to grow to between 3.31 and 3.65 million by 2010. According to Crain’s Chicago Business, however, the park had about 4 million visitors in 2009. In addition to the different uses detailed for each of the permanent features (above), the park has hosted some other notable events, including the annual Grant Park Music Festival, and two temporary pavilions to mark the centennial of Daniel Burnham’s 1909 Plan of Chicago. Millennium Park has also been featured in several films and television shows.

The Royal Monastery of St Mary of Pedralbes, founded in 1326 by Queen Elisenda of Montcada, third wife of James II of Aragon, provides a unique cultural and historical record of the community of Poor Clare Nuns who lived there practically without a break from 1327 to 1982. Its artistic heritage has become a reference for the study of the customs, fashions and models of secular and religious life. The exhibitions “Petras Albas”, “The Treasures of the Monastery,” “Plants, Remedies and Apothecaries”, “Murals in the Spotlight: the Paintings in St Michael’s Chapel” as well as the restored Chapel itself, illustrate the museum complex.
The Monastery of Pedralbes is a Gothic monastery in Barcelona, Catalonia, Spain. It is now a museum, housing permanent exhibitions on its own art and legacy as well as third-party special exhibitions from time to time. The Chapel of St. Michael was restored and re-opened in 2018.

The name of the site in the XIV century was Petras Albas, Latin for “white stones.” The original name devolved into the current one.
Originally the monastery (built in white stone, pertas albes in Catalan, whence its denomination) was defended by a line of walls, of which today only two towers and one gate remain.

The church has a single nave, with rib vaults and a polygonal apse, and houses a Gothic retablo by Jaume Huguet. The façade is characterized by a large rose window.

The cloister has three floors, and a length of 40 meters, with a central garden of orange trees and palms. It is formed by wide arches on columns, whose capitals are decorated with the emblems of the Kings of Aragon and the House of Montcada. The sepulchre of Queen Elisenda, in alabaster stone, is located in one of the cloister’s wings.

Also notable is the Chapel of St. Michael, housing several fresco paintings by Ferrer Bassa. Dating to 1346, they show the influence of the Italian painter Giotto.

The former dormitory previously housed a permanent exhibition of painters such as Rubens, Canaletto, Tintoretto, Velázquez and Beato Angelico (Virgin of the Humility, one of his masterworks).

Monkey Beach is situated in the Penang National Park in the North-western Coast of the Island. Penang National Park is the first protected area legally gazetted under Malaysia’s National Park Act of 1980, signifying the State and Federal governments’ environmental protection efforts.

Penang National Park was established to preserve and protect flora and fauna as well as objects with geological, archaeological, historical, ethnological, scientific, and scenic interests.

Monkey Beach is one of the few pristine beaches left on the Island because it is not as exposed to the pollution found along the West Coast of the Island.

As its name suggests, the beach is inhabited by monkeys of the crab-eating macaque species. A variety of fauna and flora can be found within the park including green turtles, flying squirrels, flying lemurs and over 150 species of birds. On the beach itself the white-bellied sea eagle can often be spotted.

The beach can be reached either by a one and a half-hour hike along the coast or by a short boat ride from the park entrance. The calm bay of Monkey Beach is considered safe for swimming, unlike many beaches on the island that are infested with jellyfish. Although it is relatively isolated, visitors to the beach are not uncommon and numbers increase especially during the summer tourist season. A further half an hour uphill hike from the beach will take visitors to the scenic lighthouse.

The Monsoon Palace, also known as the Sajjan Garh Palace, is a hilltop palatial residence in the city of Udaipur, overlooking the Fateh Sagar Lake. It is named Sajjangarh after Maharana Sajjan Singh (1874–1884) of the Mewar dynasty, who built it in 1884. The palace offers a panoramic view of the city’s lakes, palaces and surrounding countryside. It was built chiefly to watch the monsoon clouds; hence, appropriately, it is popularly known as Monsoon Palace. It is said that the Maharana built it at the top of the hill to get a view of his ancestral home, Chittaurgarh. Previously owned by the Mewar royal family, it is now under the control of the Forest Department of the Government of Rajasthan and has recently been opened to the public. The palace provides a beautiful view of the sunset.

Its builder, Maharana Sajjan Singh, originally planned to make it a five-storey astronomical centre. The plan was cancelled with Maharana Sajjan Singh’s premature death. It was then turned into a monsoon palace and hunting lodge.

High in the Aravalli Hills, just outside Udaipur, the Palace is illuminated in the evenings, giving a golden orange glow (see image in the infobox). The palace was used in the 1983 James Bond film Octopussy as the residence of Kamal Khan, an exiled Afghan prince.

Montjuïc Castle is an old military fortress, with roots dating back from 1640, built on top of Montjuïc hill in Barcelona, Catalonia, Spain. It currently serves as a Barcelona municipal facility.

In the 20th century, the castle became a military museum. In June 1963, Francisco Franco inaugurated the Military Armor Museum, the official name given to the institution.

In April 2007, the government transferred the castle to Barcelona City Council. Following discussions over the next months, the castle became a municipal facility. Subsequently, in 2010 the museum was closed and the City Council started a project of restoration and waterproofing of the roof and a watchtower.

The current plans for the castle include L’Espai de la Memòria, El Centre d’Interpretació de la Muntanya de Montjuïc, and cultural activities.

The castle can be accessed by the Montjuïc cable car, a gondola lift that has its upper station near the castle entrance and connects, via the Montjuïc funicular, with the Barcelona Metro at Paral·lel station.
Source : wikipedia

Standing on a vantage point 173 metres above the port, Montjuïc Castle commands stunning views of the city. Now a peaceable place, the memory of this fortress endures in Barcelona as a symbol of repression but also of the city’s struggles during different periods in its history. The top of Montjuïc is the ideal place for a bastion of defence, with 360º views of the city below. However, this military enclave wasn’t built until the Reapers’ War in 1640. In 1652, the fortress, which stands on the site of a watchtower, came under royal ownership and, some 50 years later, was one of the key defence points in the War of the Spanish Succession, between 1705 and 1714.

The plaza de toros de Las Ventas (often shortened to Las Ventas) is a famous bullring located in Madrid, Spain.

Situated in the Guindalera quarter of the district of Salamanca, it was inaugurated on June 17, 1931. It has a seating capacity of 23,798.

This bullring was designed by the architect José Espeliú in the Neo-Mudéjar (Moorish) style with ceramic incrustations. The seats are situated in ten “tendidos”. The price of the seats depends upon how close they are to the arena and whether they are in the sun or the shade (the latter being more expensive). The bullfighting season starts in March and ends in October; bullfights are held every day during the San Isidro Fiesta, and every Sunday or holiday during the season. Bullfights start at 6 or 7pm and last for two to three hours.

“Las Ventas” is located in the east of Madrid.

From 1913 to 1920, bullfighting gained such a momentum that Madrid’s former main bullring at the Carretera de Aragón was not big enough. It was José Gómez Ortega “Joselito” who complained about the necessity of a new “monumental” bullring, to open this part of Spain’s heritage and culture to the whole city of Madrid. Architect José Espeliú (friend of Joselito) began to work on the project.

Las Ventas bullring is open during all year for cultural visits under the name of Las Ventas Tour. Tour includes an audioguide translated into 10 languages and the visit of the bullring and its bullfighting museum.

Image Copyright Lesley Mitchell. Walking on the ‘puffy’ soft expanses of land that even feels a little like walking on the moon.

The Moon Plain extends over 1,500 km2, 18 km north-northeast of Coober Pedy, in central South Australia The locality derives its name from the overall lack of vegetation and a flat hummocky landscape that resembles the surface of the moon.

They are a vast expanse of rocky plains that are quite unusual to anywhere else. The lunar like landscape is so unusual it has been used as the background and set for many movies including Mad Max: Beyond the Thunderdome, Priscilla Queen of the Desert, Pitch Black and The Red Planet.
One of the interesting things about this landscape is that it is littered with beautiful pieces of clear gypsum crystals and gemstones. These are scattered throughout hundreds of pieces of petrified wood, where it is difficult to imagine a vast forest must once have stood.

In planning for future crewed missions to Mars, suitable terrestrial test sites are crucial to development and evaluation of equipment and processes needed for survival and work function. The Moon Plain, northeast of Coober Pedy in the arid region of central South Australia, is potentially one such site. Here the surficial regolith contains abundant hydrated minerals, known to be widely distributed also in the equatorial regions of Mars and identified as a possible source of water in this ice-free region of the planet.

Getting to this hilltop dining and entertainment spot at Mount Faber by cable car is half the fun.

It’s possible to drive up to Mount Faber, Singapore’s second highest hill, but that would be depriving you of experiencing one of the most popular attractions in the country.

Singapore’s cable car system links Mount Faber to Sentosa  island, and is a fantastic way to both see the island and reach the dining and entertainment complex that now occupies its peak.

Originally named Telok Blangah Hill, it was renamed Mount Faber in July 1845, in honour of Captain Charles Edward Faber of the Madras Engineers, who built a narrow winding road to the summit for the installation of a signal station.

In 2005, the cable car station atop Mount Faber was transformed into the tourist destination known as Faber Peak, where you can have a drink at a trendy bar while enjoying some of the best views in the country.

You can even choose to have a fine dining meal in the comfort of a cable car cabin as you pass serenely over the night lights of the city far below.

It’s a unique way to spend a romantic evening with a loved one, or a captivating experience for the whole family.

It is a frequent tourist destination, as it provides a panoramic view of the increasingly dense central business district within the Central Area. Its slope includes a tower that is part of the Singapore cable car system that connects to HarbourFront and Sentosa. It is accessible from the HarbourFront MRT Station.

The hill is a tourist destination and can be ascended by the Lycabettus Funicular, a funicular railway which climbs the hill from a lower terminus at Kolonaki (The railway station can be found at Aristippou street). At its two peaks are the 19th century Chapel of St. George, a theatre, and a restaurant.
The hill has a large open-air amphitheatre at the top, which has housed many Greek and international concerts.

Mulee’aage

Mulee'aage

Mulee’aage

File:Muliaage presidential residence of maldives.jpg
Attribution: A robustus at English Wikipedia

Mulee’aage is the ‘Official Residence of the President of the Maldives’. Mulee’aage is located at the historic centre of Malé in close proximity of the Medhu Ziyaarai, the Friday Mosque, and the Munnaru (Grand Minaret of Malé).
Mulee’aage, meaning the ‘’new house of Muli’’ was built on the site of ‘’Mulee’ge’’, the ancestral home of Shamsuddeen. Mulee’ge was also the home of Sultan Hasan ‘Izz ud-din (or ‘’Dhon Bandaarain’’ 1759-66) from his maternal side. It remained with the Huraa Dynasty rulers throughout its history. The last occupant of Mulee’ge was Prince Mulee’ge Manippulhu, who later ascended the throne as Sultan Muhammad Shamsuddeen III in 1892.
Mulee’aage was occupied by Prince Hassan Izzuddin between 1920 and 1934. The house did not prove auspicious for the prince, though he apparently spent a lot of time there. It was famous throughout Male’, as a place for merriment and gaiety with numerous music and dance performances organised by the young prince for his entertainment. Izzuddin however soon became the victim of a smear campaign organized by his uncle Al Ameer Abdul Majeed Rannabandeyri Kilegefaanu and cousin Hassan Fareed. Ultimately he was discredited and banished in 1934 to the isolated southerly island of Fuvahmulah where he died in 1938.
On February 4, 2009, former president Nasheed moved to Mulee’aage declaring it the official residence of the Maldivian President. In 2011, Nasheed installed a solar photovoltaic energy system in the roof of the Mulee’aage with the aim of promoting sustainable energy and sending a global message on climate leadership. After the resignation of Nasheed on February 2012, the palace became vacant.
Famous guests who stayed at Muliaa’ge include Queen Elizabeth II during Nasir’s presidency and Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi of India under president Maumoon.

The temple is also known as Mullakkal Rajarajeswari Temple, and Mullakkal Bhagwati Temple. The temple is accessible for devotes from all castes and religions, which is a wonderful emblem of secularism in Kerala. Positioned on one of the main streets of Alleppey, “Mullakkal theruvu”, Mullakkal Rajarajeswari Temple is structured in old Kerala architectural style. Being surrounded by well-maintained wall and a beautiful pond inside, the premises has plenty of trees and jasmine plants. There are several stories related to the origin of the temple and its foundation. The idol placed on the shrine is of Durga Maa with four arms, popularly known as “Mullakkal Devi” aka “Mullakkal Amma”. Presently, the temple is run by Travancore Devaswom boards inKkerala.

The structure of the temple
The shrine of the temple is called “Sanctum sanctorum” and it is an open roof shrine. At the entrance point of the temple, around 20 feet area is kept under roofing. According to convention and old custom this roofed place is used for keeping large elephants that bring the “thidambu” of the goddess on special occasions. There are other deities in the temple; they are Hanuman Swami, Lord Ganesha, Subramanya Swami, Nagaraja, Navagraha, Sree Krishna, and Lord Ayyappa.[3] There is banyan tree inside the premises where the lingam of Lord Shiva is also placed for darshana.

Custom of worshipping
Usually some specific sweet dishes and South Indian special foods are offered to Goddess as Naivedyam. According to mythology, the first day when Annapurneswari idol was worshipped the prasad was vada using complete urud gram with its black skin and the ingredients were collected from a neighboring Brahmin family. Following that convention the same prasad is prepared today and the ingredients are collected from some patron’s place. This special prasad is offered at night for puja.

The hill station of Munnar is synonymous with rolling hills that are carpeted with verdant plantations of tea – a delicious beverage loved worldwide. This place is recognised for having some of the best and most beautiful tea gardens across the globe. Owing to the presence of large tea estates and big names in the field, it is regarded as a prominent hub of tea trade in the country.

Until 1790, Munnar was a densely forested region that was discovered by the Duke of Wellington. In 1870, a subordinate of Travancore’s ruler granted 588 sq km of land on lease to J.D. Munro, who was a Scottish tea planter and a lawyer. A.H. Sharp planted the first sapling of tea at Parvathi, which now comes under the Sevenmallay Estate. In present times, the hill station has more than 50 tea gardens and sprawling estates. Harrison Malayalam, Michael’s Tea, Brooke Bond and AVT Tea are some of the well-known tea estates in the region.

Tea in Munnar is grown on its undulating terrain, which appear as if they are covered with a bright green blanket. Sometimes, terraced plantation is also followed in order to prevent soil erosion and to facilitate irrigation. As tea has become one of the reasons behind this hill station’s international fame, it is considered an important aspect of this place. Keeping this in mind, Tata Tea established a tea museum to provide an insight into the process that is involved behind every delicious sip of tea.

The Munnar tea gardens make a beautiful backdrop for photographs . The vast expanse of greenery and silvery mist form a perfect setting for photography. Visitors are required to seek prior permission for conducting photography in many of the tea estates.
Movie Connect
The beauty of Munnar tea gardens has always fascinated the Hindi film fraternity. Several Bollywood movies and famous song sequences have been shot in these rolling tea plantations. Nishabd (2007), starring Amitabh Bachchan opposite Jiah Khan, featured these gardens in one of its scenes.

A few scenes from the Oscar-winning movie Life of Pi (2012) were also shot in the tea gardens of Munnar. This critically acclaimed movie featured Irrfan Khan, Tabu and Suraj Sharma in lead roles. Two popular songs from Shah Rukh Khan and Deepika Padukone starrer Chennai Express (2013) were shot amidst these sprawling greens. Titli and Kashmir main tu Kanyakumari were the two songs of this blockbuster movie that featured Munnar’s tea gardens.

Munroe Island or Mundrothuruthu is located at the confluence of Ashtamudi Lake and the Kallada River, in Kollam district, Kerala, South India. The island, accessible by road, rail and inland water navigation, is about 25 kilometres (16 mi) from Kollam by road, 38 kilometres (24 mi) north from Paravur, 12 kilometres (7.5 mi) west from Kundara and about 25 kilometres (16 mi) from Karunagapally.
The place is named in honour of Resident Colonel John Munro of the former Princely State of Travancore. The island measures 13.4 square kilometres (5.2 sq mi) in area.

History
In 1795 the British established their supremacy in South India and the princely state of Travancore came under their governance. From 1800 onwards, a Resident was appointed by East India Company as administrative head of Travancore. The first Resident was Colonel Colin Macaulay, followed by Colonel John Munro. During his tenure Munro oversaw the land reclamation efforts in the delta where Kallada River joins Ashtamudi Lake and the reclaimed island was named after him as Munroe Island. The Dutch Church here in Munroe Island is one of the ancient churches in Kerala. It was built by the Dutch in 1878. The red brick church is a blend of Dutch-Kerala architecture on the scenic banks of Lake Ashtamudi.

The villagers depended on coconut coir manufacturing as livelihood, however, post Indian Ocean Tsunami, things have changed.

Tourism
The island village is a tourism destination where one can see the coir retting process, coir weaving, fishing, prawns feeding, migratory bird watch, narrow canals and waterways, coconut farms on the lake shore, lagoons, mangrove plants and the beautiful tiny islands of Pathupara.

Kallada Boat Race, which is one of the famous boat races in Kerala, is at Karuvathrakadavu- Muthiraparambu nettayam in Munroethuruth.

The city of Rio de Janeiro is home to the world’s largest graffiti mural. The mural, titled ‘Etnias’ or ‘Ethnicities’, was created by Brazilian street artist Eduardo Kobra specifically for the Olympic games. He made the mural on a 190-meter long wall. The resulting work stretches out across nearly 3,000 square meters, and revolves around the theme of togetherness.

RIO DE JANEIRO IS NOT only about paradise beaches and samba goddesses. It is also a city where street art is celebrated, and by walking 560 feet along Rio’s waterfront, you can appreciate the largest mural graffiti in world, a Guinness World Record accomplishment and a legacy of the 2016 Rio Olympic Games.

The work depicts a Tajapo boy from Brazil, a Mursi woman from Ethiopia, a Kayin woman from Thailand, a Supi man from Northern Europe, and a Huli man from Papua New Guinea. They represent humanity’s common ancestors, the indigenous people from America, Asia, Europe, Africa and Oceania.

Monet’s Water Lilies

A cycle of Monet’s water-lily paintings, known as the Nymphéas, was arranged on the ground floor of the Orangerie in 1927. They are available under direct diffused light as was originally intended by Monet. The eight paintings are displayed in two oval rooms all along the walls.

The museum was closed to the public from the end of August 1999 until May 2006. For several months before it was closed there was a special exhibit of Monet’s Nymphéas that were gathered from museums throughout the world. More than 60 of the 250 paintings he made of the water lilies in his garden were included. The walls were repainted in shades of purples and violet for this special exhibit. The Orangerie was renovated in order to move the paintings to the upper floor of the gallery.

Built between 1652 and 1681 for Etienne Lantin, councilor in the Accounts Chamber, the townhouse became the property of the Magnin family in the 19th century when Jean-Hugues Magnin (1791-1856) bought it in 1829. Without altering its historic flavor, the town house was redesigned in the 1930s by the Parisian architect Auguste Perret, to house the collection that Maurice Magnin, a year after the death of his sister Jeanne, willed to the State in 1938. In accordance with the donor’s wishes, the museum has retained its characters as an amateur’s cabinet and private dwelling.

The Museum Of Fine Arts Dijon is a museum of fine arts opened in 1787 in Dijon, France. It is housed in the Palace of the Dukes of Burgundy in the historic center of Dijon.
Being one of the oldest museums in France, the Museum of Fine Arts in Dijon was founded in 1787 during the Age of Enlightenment. It is known for its collections in relation with the dukes of Burgundy, for the richness of its encyclopedic collections stretching from Egyptian art to the 20th century as well as the historical interest of the building that holds them, the Palace of the Dukes of Burgundy.
The history of the Fine Arts Museum goes back to the creation of the art school by François Devosge in 1766.
His collections, which have been presented within the Museum since 1787, represent the beginnings of the museum’s collections. It was initially made up of two rooms, the Statues Room – intended for sculpture, and the Salon Condé – for paintings, which celebrates the glory of the Condés, governors of Burgundy.
It is located in the former palace of the Dukes of Burgundy and in the eastern part of the Palace of the Estates.
The museum opened its doors to the public in 1799 and gradually spread out within the palace being enriched by imperial grants, deposits by the State, donations and legacies.
As one of the largest museums of France, le Musée des Beaux-Arts de Dijon is known for its rich collections of sculptures, paintings, art objects and various other items from the past.
Those interested in a specific historical age can admire various stunning items from Antiquity, Middle-Age, Renaissance as well as masterpieces stretching from the 17th century to the 21st century.
Among the attractions of the museum, you can find the tombs of Philippe le Hardi and Jean sans Peur, a collection of German and Swiss primitives (the most important in France) and a collection of French paintings, rich in artists dating back to the time of Louis XIV, not forgetting the collection of contemporary art.
The museum also holds extra-European collections, such as ceramic and Islamic glasses, weapons and oriental caskets, ancient ivories of Africa, everyday objects and African ceremonial masks, Chinese, Japanese porcelains, and Korean stoneware, Tibetan and Indian sculptures and pre-Columbian ceramics.

Nadukani, a popular picnic spot, is at an elevation of around 3000 ft above sea level. The site offers views of the Blue Mountains on one side and River Muvattupuzha on the other side.
This is a viewpoint on the way to idukki from muttom. There is a pavilion constructed here for people to view the valley below. You can see the moolamattam power grid, the hills bordering kottayam and idukki and the thodupuzha reservoir.
On hazy days the view can get obstructed. On clear days they say you can see upto ernakulam.
Cars and bikes can go till the pavilion, but tourist buses are not allowed.
Amazing views await you. An ideal place to take a timeout while driving or riding.

Roof Terrace of the Fort

Nahargarh Fort stands on the edge of the Aravalli Hills, overlooking the pink city of Jaipur. The view of the city from the fort is impressive.

Along with Amer Fort and JaigarhFort, Nahargarh once formed a strong defence ring for the city. The fort was originally named Sudarshangarh, but it became known as Nahargarh, which means ‘abode of tigers’. The popular belief is that Nahar here stands for Nahar Singh Bhomia, whose spirit haunted the place and obstructed construction of the fort. Nahar’s spirit was pacified by building a temple in his memory within the fort, which thus became known by his name.

Built mainly in 1734 by Naharaja Sawaii Jai Singh II, the founder of Jaipur, the fort was constructed as a place of retreat on the summit of the ridge above the city. Walls extended over the surrounding hills, forming fortifications that connected this fort to Jaigarh, the fort above the old capital of Amber. Though the fort never came under attack during the course of its history, it did see some historical events, notably the treaties with the Maratha forces who warred with Jaipur in the 18th century. During the Indian Mutiny of 1857, the Europeans of the region, including the British Resident’s wife, were moved to Nahargarh fort by the king of Jaipur, Sawai Ram Singh, for their protection.

The fort was extended in 1868 during the reign of Sawai Ram Singh. In 1883-92, a range of palaces was built at Nahargarh by Sawai Madho Singh at a cost of nearly three and a half lakh rupees. The Madhavendra Bhawan, built by Sawai Madho Singh had suites for the queens of Jaipur and at the head was a suite for the king himself. The rooms are linked by corridors and still have some delicate frescos. Nahargarh was also a hunting residence of the Maharajas.

Until April 1944, the Jaipur State government used for its official purposes solar time read from the Samrat Yantra in the Jantar Mantar Observatory, with a gun fired from Nahargarh Fort as the time signal.

Some scenes of the movie Rang De Basanti and Shuddh Desi Romance and bengali Cinema Sonar Kella were shot at Nahargarh fort.

Nakki Lake is a very ancient sacred Lake, according to the Hindu legend. It is called by this name because it was dug out from Nails (Nakh). One story is of dug by Gods to live in, for protection against the Bashkali rakshash (a wicked demon). While other is of Rasiya Balam (a sculpture of Dilwara Jain temple), who dug the lake, as the king told that whoever will dug the lake within one night I will marry my daughter to him. But later king’s wife refused and he couldn’t marry the king’s daughter. Temple of Rasiya Balam and Kunwari Kanya (king’s daughter)’s is located behind the Dilwara Jain temple.

The lake is in length of about a half mile and in width about of a quarter of mile and 20 to 30 ft. deep towards the dam on the west. It is an important tourist attraction of Mount Abu. There is the Toad Rock on a hill near the lake. Toad rock is so called as it looks like a toad about to jump into the lake, from the side of the rock facing the lake. There are two ways to go up and down the rock; to climb the rocky hill side or to use the steps leading down to Nakki Lake. By the side of the lake there is a path leading to Sunset Point. It is forbidden to climb to Sunset Point due to dangerous bandits living around the path to Sunset Point. Raghunath Temple and Maharaja Jaipur Palace are also on hills near the Lake. Boating in the lake and horse rides around the lake are available.

Mahatma Gandhi’s ashes were immersed in this Holy Lake on 12 February 1948 and Gandhi Ghat was constructed.

The Naldehra Golf Course, located in the hill state of Himachal Pradesh in North India, some 22 km from Shimla, constitutes a course perched at an altitude of 2,200 meters. It is a par 68, 18-hole course with 16 greens and 18 tees and has a design reminiscent of Scottish links courses.

The Naldhera golf course was built under the supervision of Lord Curzon, the then Viceroy of India in the early 1900s. Captivated by the beauty of the place, surrounded by a thick mane of Himalayan cedar, which was also his favourite camping site just outside the British summer capital of Shimla, he established what today is one of the oldest and most scenic golf courses in the country. It is also to be noted that in memory of his stay there he named his third daughter Alexandra Naldehra.

Initially a 9 Hole Course, the Naldehra golf course was expanded to 18 holes, and further expansion has been planned to make the course at par with the best in the country.

Within the boundaries, the golf course has a stylish club house that features three double rooms and a comfortable drawing room. Open for members as well as non-members, this club house is available on prior booking.

Nan Lian Garden is situated at Diamond Hill of Kowloon, taking in the full view of southeast Kowloon. The Garden and the Chi Lin Nunnery to its north together back into the sprawling northern mountain range. Hammer Hill Road borders the Garden on the east, Lung Cheung Road on the south, and Hollywood Plaza, a large shopping mall, on its west. The Garden opens to the west. An MTR station is just opposite the Main Gate.

The Garden is a designated public park, with an area of 35,000 square metres. It was designed and built by the Chi Lin Nunnery, entrusted by the Government, and is opened to the public in November 2006. It is currently managed by the Chi Lin Nunnery, also entrusted by the Government.

The Nan Lian Garden is built in the classical style of the Tang Dynasty (618 AD to 907 AD), on the blue print of Jiangshouju, the only Tang landscape garden the original layout of which can still be placed and traced today, and the shape of which bears a significant resemblance to the Garden site. Hills and rocks, waters, plants and timber structures are built and arranged according to classical Tang style and rules, accommodating the local environment, and the best view of the sprawling mountain range to the north is taken as the seamless backdrop.

The Garden is a Tang garden built in modern times, its architecture and landscaping reminiscent of nature and conducive towards a sense of serenity and tranquility, an ambience in which visitors may enjoy a moment of leisure and peace of mind, whilst reflecting on the profound richness of classical Chinese culture, right in the midst of the urban city hustle and bustle. It is hoped this will help promote the knowledge of and interest in classical Chinese culture.

This Nathmalji Ki Haveli was commissioned to serve as the residence of Diwan Mohata Nathmal, the then Prime Minister of Jaisalmer. Maharawal Beri Sal commissioned the construction of this Haveli. It is said that the two brothers started building different facets of haveli simultaneously. In those days there were no such instruments, which could keep a track on continuity and thus when this building came up finally it had irregular shape.

This haveli is still considered the best in Jaisalmer in terms of grandeur. There are two Elephants made of yellow stone. These life-size replicas have been put in front of the main entrance so that it looks as if they are guarding the Haveli. There are pictures engraved on pillars and walls. These consist of Horses, Cattle, and depiction of Flora among other things. But the most interesting aspect of this haveli is the drawing of modern amenities such as cars, fans etc.

Thus the architecture present in this haveli is quite different from the one popular in other parts of Jaisalmer. The workmanship of Jaisalmer havelis is an amalgam of both Rajput architecture as well as Islamic art that was imported via the traders’ caravan through the desert.

The National Gallery Singapore is an art gallery located in the Downtown Core of Singapore . Opened on 24 November 2015, it oversees the world’s largest public collection of Singapore and Southeast Asian art, consisting of over 8,000 artworks. National Gallery Singapore aims to provide an understanding and appreciation of art and culture through a variety of media, focusing on Singapore’s culture and heritage and its relationship with other Southeast asian cultures, Asia, and the world.

Situated in Singapore’s Civic district, the Gallery consists of two national monuments, the former Supreme Court building and City hall, and has a combined floor area of 64,000 square metres (690,000 sq ft), making it the largest visual arts venue and largest museum in Singapore. A total cost of S$532 million has gone into National Gallery Singapore’s development.

The 5 main objectives of the National Gallery Singapore are as follows:

Research, exhibit and promote Southeast Asian artworks for the enjoyment of all

To be a central civic space, providing a platform for artistic expression and learning as well as lifestyle destination: built for the engagement, enjoyment and enrichment of Singaporeans and visitors

Facilitate the exchange of knowledge through regional partnerships and collaborations with other institutions

Drive, develop and foster visual arts development in Singapore and Southeast Asia, as well as establish a leading position in the international museums and galleries scene

Inform and educate audiences, through multi-sensory media and engaging experiences

City Hall and the former Supreme Court buildings are national monuments and have played a significant role in Singapore’s history. The buildings face an open field known as the Padang, which is a Malay word meaning “flat field”. Through link bridges and a new basement level, the design for the new Gallery integrates the City Hall and former Supreme Court buildings, combining both old and new architecture.

The Museu Historico Nacional as it is commonly referred to by the locals is one of the largest museums in the city. This national history museum is housed in a fort dating back to the latter half of the 1500s.

Built initially as a fort, the complex had later additions in the form of a barracks, an armory, and a prison. Today, all of the structures in the premises serve as a repository for the important historical documents and artifacts of Brazilian history, which is regarded as the largest numismatic collection in and of Latin America.

On the ground floor, the galleries that are not to be missed are Sacred Art, which features very painstakingly done religious art and other religious symbols, and also the display of beautiful wooden carriages. On the first floor you will find the historic archives and library as well as all the temporary exhibitions. The Reigna real Gallery is one of the most prestigious galleries where temporary exhibitions take place.

The National Museum  is a museum located on Jalan Damansara in Kaula LumpurMalaysia. The museum is situated in close proximity to the Perdana Lake Gardens and it provides an overview of Malaysian history and culture. National Museum was opened on 31 August 1963, and it serves as a repository of Malaysia’s rich cultural and historical heritage.

The National Museum is a three-story structure of 109.7 meters long and 15.1 meters wide and 37.6 meters at the central point. Adorning the floor of the Central Hall are blue geometric-design mosaic tiles from Pakistan, with intricate carved panels on the ceiling of the hall.

In the vicinity of the National museum building, there are a number of outdoor displays of transportation in Malaysia, past and present. An interesting exhibit is the Melaka Bullock Cart which closely resembles the early American horse-drawn wagon. Of unparalleled interest are the Steam Locomotive made by Kitson & Co., England, which was put into service in 1921 until it ceased operation in 1969. It covered 1.5 million rail miles; a Tin Dredge which resembles a floating factory, on a natural or artificial lake. Also on display are motorised vehicles, including antiqued civic vehicles and private vehicles, including an early 1.3 litre Proton Saga, the first national car launched on 18 April 1985.

Another attraction of the Museum is an original-size old Terengganu timber palace known as Istana Satu. It was erected by Sultan Zainal Abidin IIISultan of Terengganu in 1884 in the compound of Kota Istana MaziahKaula Terengganu. This building is of Terengganu Malay traditional architecture, in the form called “Rumah Tiang Dua Belas”. The wood used is cengal. Istana Satu was erected in the National Museum compound in April 1974.

Istana Satu

Rich Malay craftsmanship is evident throughout the palace, from the intricate wood carvings that adorn doors and windows. The restored palace is a charming wooden house designed for the tropics. Standing on stilts that allow air to circulate freely under the building, the palace’s steep thatch roof contributes further to keeping the interior of the house nice and cool.

Standing majestically next to the Istana Satu are two keliriengs or burial poles. A kelirieng is made of a huge hardwood tree trunk, carved from the top to bottom. Niched up to its sides is a space for the bodies of slaves and followers and hollowed at the top to place the jar containing the chief’s bones.

The Museu Nacional de Belas Artes (MNBA; Portuguese for National Museum of Fine Arts) is a national art museum located in the city of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The museum, officially established in 1937 by the initiative of education minister Gustavo Capanema, was inaugurated in 1938 by President Getúlio Vargas. The museum collection, on the other hand, takes its rise in the transfer of the Portuguese Court to Brazil in the early 19th century, when King John VI brought along with him part of the Portuguese Royal Collection. This art collection stayed in Brazil after the King’s return to Europe and became the core collection of the National School of Fine Arts. When the museum was created in 1937, it became the heir not only the National School collection, but also of its headquarters, a 1908 eclectic style building projected by Spanish architect Adolfo Morales de los Ríos.

The Museu Nacional de Belas Artes is one of the most important cultural institutions of the country, as well as the most important museum of Brazilian art, particularly rich in 19th-century paintings and sculptures. The collection includes more than 20,000 pieces, among paintings, sculptures, drawings and prints, of Brazilian and international artists, ranging from High Middle Ages to contemporary art. It also includes smaller assemblages of decorative arts, folk and African art. The museum library has a collection of about 19,000 titles. The building was listed as Brazilian national heritage in 1973.

Collections
Since its beginning in 1808, the collection of works of art has been enormously expanded and now has around 20,000 items. The collections include painting, sculpture, drawing as well as decorative arts, furniture, folk art and African art.

If you have time to visit only one place to learn about the history and culture of Singapore, this is probably it. The National Museum of Singapore tells you the intriguing story of this country in a manner that is both fun and rewarding.

Imagine standing in the midst of a vast darkened space surrounded by a massive video montage showing everyday life in Singapore while a rousing symphony plays in the background. That’s just a taste of the immersive experience you can expect here.

With its history dating back to 1887, the National Museum is the nation’s oldest, and one of the city’s architectural icons. Its permanent offerings, the Singapore History and Living Galleries, piece together the past and present in a compelling narrative.
The building itself is a wondrous structure that has seamlessly fused the old with the new, enhancing the elegant neo-classical building with a new modernist extension of glass and metal.

The museum hosts a dynamic range of events through the year – from art installations and festivals to performances and film screenings – in addition to presenting exhibitions involving historically and culturally important collections of artefacts.

A selection of cafes and restaurants, as well as a retail space to pick up that souvenir round off a spectacular cultural offering.

The National Orchid Garden, located within the Singapore Botanic Gardens, was opened on 20 October 1995.

The Singapore Botanic Gardens has been developed along a 3-Core Concept. The three Cores consist of Tanglin, which is the heritage core that retains the old favourites and rustic charms of the historic Gardens; Central, which is the tourist belt of the Gardens; and Bukit Timah, which is the educational and recreational zone. Each Core offers an array of attractions.

The National Orchid Garden is located in the Central Core of the gardens.

The Garden is located on the highest hill in the Singapore Botanic Gardens. Providing a place for 60,000 orchid plants – consisting of 1000 species and more than 2,000 hybrids – is the three hectares of carefully landscaped slopes.

The design concept presenting the display of plants in four separate color zones: the spring zone with its prevailing colors of bright and lively shades of gold, yellow and creams; the summer zone with its major tones of strong reds and pinks; the autumn zone of matured shades; and the winter zone of whites and cool blues. A careful combination of selected trees, shrubs, herbs and orchids (mostly hybrids) with matching foliage and floral colours depicts the colour combination.

Source : Wikipedia

Since 1859, orchids have been closely associated with the Gardens. The products of the Gardens’ orchid breeding programme, which began in 1928, deserve a place where they can be displayed in their full splendour. The very design of these orchids is, one could say, ‘hand-crafted’ by the Gardens’ horticultural staff, dedicated to bringing out the finest in any hybrid cross.

Navagio Beach or Shipwreck Beach, is an exposed cove, sometimes referred to as “Smugglers Cove”, on the coast of Zakynthos, in the Ionian Islands of Greece. Navagio Beach was originally known as Agios Georgios.

On 2 October 1980, the coaster MV Panagiotis, ran aground in the waters around Zakynthos Island on Navagio Beach during stormy weather and bad visibility. Some rumours claim the ship was smuggling contraband; however official sources did not confirm this, and the captain was not convicted for such offences. In fact, after the captain alerted the authorities, 29 locals were convicted of looting the cargo and valuable equipment from the wrecked ship. The ship was abandoned and still rests buried in the limestone gravel of the beach that now bears the nickname Shipwreck.

The location was prominently featured in the hit Korean drama Descendants of the Sun, leading to a surge of interest among Chinese and Korean tourists.

The beach was briefly closed in 2018, and swimming and boat anchoring were forbidden, after a cliff collapse over the beach dropped a large amount of rock. The beach reopened and anchoring permitted with restrictions because of concerns about future landslides.

Significant features include two-sided cars that allow for easy loading and unloading, a fortified structure to withstand winds of 115 miles per hour and safety glass capable of weathering intense storms. The new model was unveiled on May 27, 2016.

The Festival Halls can be used for sporting events. Festival Halls A and B can be turned into a 170,000 square foot competition arena. Gymnastics meets have been held in the Festival Halls.

Neendakara is a famous fishing harbour located around 8 km from Kollam district of Kerala, India. When Portuguese traders settled in Kollam (then Quilon) in the early 16th century, their ships passed through the Neenadakara bar, now the site of Neendakara Bridge, part of National Highway 47, which connects the village to Sakthikulangara across Ashtamudi lake. In Malayalam, Neendakara means “a long bank”. From here you can see the Ashtamudi Lake joining the sea from the Neendakara Bridge and also the Chinese fishing nets silhouetted against the sky.

The place has many reasons to attract visitors and one such reason is the existence of Indo-Norwegian Fisheries Community Project, the headquarter of which is located at the Neendakara Port. This place is a hub of fishing and other marine activities of the region and the Indo-Norwegian Fisheries Community Project gives support to the fishing activities here. Some of the activities running under this project are setting up of a Fishermen Training Institute and establishment of a boat building yard at Sakthikulangara along with a refrigerator plant.

The llama is a domesticated South American camelid, widely used as a meat and pack animal by Andean cultures since the Pre-Columbian era.
The height of a full-grown, full-size llama is 1.7 to 1.8 m (5.6 to 5.9 ft) tall at the top of the head, and can weigh between 130 and 200 kg (290 and 440 lb). At birth, a baby llama (called a cria) can weigh between 9 and 14 kg (20 and 31 lb). Llamas typically live for 15 to 25 years, with some individuals surviving 30 years or more.
They are very social animals and live with other llamas as a herd. The wool produced by a llama is very soft and lanolin-free. Llamas are intelligent and can learn simple tasks after a few repetitions. When using a pack, they can carry about 25 to 30% of their body weight for 8 to 13 km (5–8 miles).
The name llama (in the past also spelled ‘lama’ or ‘glama’) was adopted by European settlers from native Peruvians.
Llamas appear to have originated from the central plains of North America about 40 million years ago. They migrated to South America about three million years ago. By the end of the last ice age (10,000–12,000 years ago), camelids were extinct in North America. As of 2007, there were over seven million llamas and alpacas in South America, and due to importation from South America in the late 20th century, there are now over 158,000 llamas and 100,000 alpacas in the United States and Canada.
