Maharaja Express
The Maharaja Express is a luxury train owned and operated by Indian Railway Catering and Tourism corporation. It runs on 5 circuits covering more than 12 destinations across North-West and Central India, mainly centered on Rajasthan between the months of October to April.
The Maharaja Express was voted “The World’s Leading Luxury Train” thrice, in a row at The World Travel Awards, 2012, 2013 and 2014. It is the most expensive luxury train in Asia. It was named to the 2011 list of World’s Top 25 Trains by The Society of International Railway Travelers and was praised for its on-board accommodation and dining facilities, service, and off-train excursion program after its review in the Autumn of 2010. Maharaja Express also received the first runner up award in the Specialist Train Operators Category at Conde Nast Travelers Reader Choice Travel Award in 2011.
The train comprises 23 carriages which include accommodation, dining, bar, lounge, generator and store cars. Accommodation is available in 14 guest carriages with total passenger capacity of 88. The train also has a lounge called the Rajah Club with a private bar, two dining cars and a dedicated bar car. An on-board souvenir boutique offers memorabilia for passengers. The train is also equipped with a water filtration plant.

I wasn’t really a fan of luxury trains until my first journey in Maharajas’ Express. Now I am so delighted with the journey that I am tempted to book another one. Not only did I explore the cultural heritage of India on this journey, but also had the pleasure of traveling in such a wonderful train that treats passengers like kings. Apart from the luxurious cabins equipped with numerous facilities like temperature control LCD TV, and Internet connection, there are two peaceful bars offering a wide range of exquisite wines and spirits, along with a whole collection of interesting books to read.

I never miss a chance to explore the vast cultural heritage of India and a tour through major spots like Agra and Jaipur every year is a common practice for me. This year’s tour, however, was quite different and way more ostentatious, thanks to Maharajas’ Express. Journey in this luxurious half-a-mile train was an amazingly pleasurable and unforgettable experience for me. I simply love everything about this train starting from the delicious food in the two restaurants to the classy bars. The cabins not only ensure utmost comfort but also complete entertainment with facilities like LCD TV, DVD player and Internet connection.

Maharajas’ Express is truly the best combination of excellent tourism and world-class luxury. Having gone on the Gems of India journey in this train, I had the pleasure of visiting Delhi, Agra and Jaipur, and I intend to cover other journeys as well. Apart from that, the services offered in the train made me feel like a real king living in a palace. I savored some of the best foods at two restaurants. Furthermore, it was really pleasing to have drinks at the Safari bar. The cabins equipped with a multitude of facilities, on the other hand, allowed us to have a great personal time with family and friends.
